Two
robbery suspects, Hussaini Usman Dikko and Usman Umar, who were
arrested by the Niger State Police Command claimed that Allah destined
it.
The robbery suspects who were reportedly robbing residents of Wawa,
New Bussa, when they were apprehended by the police, claimed they would
have escaped if Allah had not destined that they would be caught.
They were arrested at Gufanti Fulani Camp in New Bussa Local Government Area of the state.
Hussaini who spoke to Punch’s correspondent disclosed that they
engaged the police in a gun duel during which they were injured.
According to him, shots were to enable their escape but met a stronger
fight from the police.
“We opened fire to scare them to enable us to take to our heels but
unfortunately they wounded one of us during the exchange of gunfire and
consequently arrested us.
“Allah has destined that they will catch us, so there is nothing
anybody can do about it. We have accepted our fate, so let the law take
its course,” he said.
The Niger State Police Command Spokesperson Muhammad Abubakar told
newsmen that one single-barrel gun and cutlasses were recovered from the
robbery suspects who would be charged to court after investigation.
According to him, the suspects confessed to the crime.
Few months ago also, the Niger State Police Command disclosed that
they recorded a breakthrough in the investigation into the robbery
attacks on two banks in Lapai in Niger State.
According to Assistant Inspector General of Police, Fredrick Lakanu,
some suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery, adding that
they were yet to be paraded for security reasons.
He said, “Like the Offa bank robbery, we have also made a similar
breakthrough in the Lapai banks’ robberies and some of the suspects have
been arrested.”
The AIG disclosed that the suspects were not paraded in order not to
jeopardize investigations, saying, “For security reasons, sometimes
especially if some of them are still out there,
we wouldn’t need to reveal our strategies, but I can assure you that
we are working assiduously to pick everybody involved in that heinous
crime.”
